Nov 2, 2012

It’s been crazy here in past few months. at one point we needed 50 people and we are still sitting at hiring need of 20. So hiring has been our prime concern over the summer. We did do job fairs at Mount Royal college and with govt. of Alberta as well. The success rate was higher with govt. of Alberta as we could catch the people who are looking for job there.

In Mount Royal most of the crowd was students and they were not willing to do shipper / receiver job. My biggest challenge for the summer was to get people here and on top of that making them stay here when they were getting news from everywhere that sears is closing.

Starting Sept we had Kelvin MacDonald, CEO of Sears Canada Inc. visited our facility and that helped a lot to boast up people’s morale and kept their faith in the company. Here at warehouse things are very different than a retail store because doesn’t matter how much they change the looks of the store but there would never be any changes here in warehouse. The job sometimes get very monotonous here and its always tiring, all these things makes it very hard for people to stay in this job specially when market is hitting very nicely.

As we are moving towards the end of the year the focus is to cut the cost, reduce expenses majorly indirect payroll which consist of overtime, temporary employees etc. there are a lot of changes going on within the company in regards to top management as well which affects the decision making time. Hopefully we are going to see a new face of Sears Canada Inc. sometime soon.

here at sears we are going through an external ISO audit for all the three certification we have. I have been through this process three times by now but i must say that every company has it at a different level. few of them just do it for the sake of doing it while other follow it by heart. sears is one them. i have never seen such a policy driven company before except when i worked for Dell Computers.

sears goes through as sine wave every year there are few times where they are super busy and sometimes they are very easy. this time of the year is approaching to to be busy. So a lot of work to do.

Currently I am working on interview guidelines so that every manager can do the interview in a same manner

hiiiiiiiiii

A new opportunity for me, right now I am working on a project of designing a training programe for the sales team of durabuilt and another project i am working on is to design a full orientation training program for the production floor workers. its fun and on the same side its increasing my knowledge level also.

being a ISO 9001 certified company now the more focus is on the paper work. its kind of run around with all the line managers and supervisors but its funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
